Who Needs a Church Home?
You and I both know that going to a church each week is something that a lot of people don't do! Life seems to be full of other stuff to do (especially on the weekends!) - like sport, homework and just plain relaxing at home! So what are your options, if church is so "optional" to everybody?
We want to let you in on a secret about church… those of us who enjoy it the most, go along on Sundays because we love it! That's all. Yes, you heard right! It's not because we believe God will smite us if we don't, or because we're trying to keep the numbers up in church (and what - win a competition?!). Church is more than a building - in fact when you really experience it fully, your church becomes a spiritual HOME. This seems weird at first - because there is a building, a car park and people work there, and they advertise stuff. But the church would actually continue on living if the building was taken away! This is the core of the secret - the church is actually people - kind of like a tribe - and Jesus is the Chief (or Lord.)
If you have started a relationship with Jesus (when you trusted him to forgive you, through his cross) - then being "at home" with a church tribe is part of the plan God has for your spiritual health. Christians who wrote in the Bible to the first churches really encouraged them (and us) to be fair dinkum members of a church. Back then that meant meeting a small group of people from all kinds of backgrounds, in someone's home. The Idea is still the same. Here's some advice for you from the writer of the bible book of Hebrews (in chapter 10):
"Some people have got out of the habit of meeting for worship, but we mustn't do that. We should keep on encouraging each other, especially since you know that the day of the Lord's coming is getting closer."
So it's actually important if you want to stay alive as a Christian, to join God's family; for worshipping him, learning about Him from the bible, serving each other, and reaching people who don't know him. We do all this together as a family… and THERE'S A PLACE FOR YOU!
So why not join a church family this weekend? We know that coming into a new tribe takes courage, so we'd like to help you out with a friendly dude who understands and will be your buddy. Call any of these Pastor guys from our church, and they'll line it up. Or if you prefer ask one of your friends who go to church to take you.
