Senior Pastor: Rev. Heath Smith

Rev Heath Smith and family Heath began ministry as a Uni Chaplain at UWS Nepean before studying at Morling College and working at Gordon Baptist for 4 years. Upon finishing, he spent 8 years at Ingleburn Baptist as both Associate and Senior Pastor before moving to Menai in February 2008.

Previous to ministry, Heath worked as an optometrist, but now spends all his time helping people discover what it means to live as a follower of Jesus Christ. He is 41 and married to Jeanine, a youth health counsellor, and they have three children, Madeleine (10), Eleanor (9) and Alexander (5), attending Inaburra School and Preschool.

On any given day, he would love nothing better than to read a great book while watching his beloved Swans out at the SCG, if he couldn't get out for a bike ride or spearfishing adventure or to eat Thai food... the hotter the better!

Associate Pastor - Youth & Young Adults: Rev. Al Hewetson

Rev Al Hewetson and family Rev. Hewetson was the last worker to serve as Chaplain/Schools Ministry Worker at Epping Boys High School, a state school. He thoroughly enjoyed the many opportunities he received to build relationship with teenage boys and their families for offering holistic pastoral care and counseling; as well as helping young Christians develop in gifting and skills for serving God at school.

Previous Ministry Experience was gained while studying at Morling Bible College for qualifications in Ministry/Theology and Youth Ministry Diploma, including Youth Ministry field worker with Scripture Union for 3 years, Ashfield Baptist as student Youth Pastor for one year and High School Ministry Advisor with Anglican Youthworks in the George's River Region of Sydney Diocese.

Prior to becoming a minister, Al worked as a Scientific Officer in a diagnostic Pathology Laboratory, and a string of random jobs in between his study courses - to pay his bills.

Al is 41 years old and married to Annie – an ex-Speech Pathologist and Bible College graduate. They have a 4 year old son, Cooper Lewis and a 10 month old daughter, Poppy May.

Al does a range of varied things for relaxation in leisure time, including going to a (rare) movie with Annie, drinking good single-origin coffee with a friend, reading a good book, playing his Maton acoustic guitar, having an early morning surf or socialising with Annie and good friends (and especially Annie – who is both.)

Assistant Pastor - Children: Mrs Roxane Lawler

Roxane Lawler & family Roxane comes to MBC with a wealth of experience in Children's Ministry. Formerly a Ministry Advisor with Anglican Youthworks where she provided leadership training and program development for Children's Ministries throughout Sydney and beyond, Roxane has written and delivered training packages on effective ways to communicate the Bible to children, Child Protection and skills including puppetry, crafts and games.

An accomplished ventriloquist, Roxane also writes and delivers gospel talks for Christmas and Easter school assemblies and playgroups.

Roxane is joined by her husband Mark, together with their children Sommerset (6), Emerson (4) and Evander (2), and looks forward to opportunities for working with our children and seeking to reach many more young lives for Christ.

Roxane loves all types of crafts and food and would love to get out to the movies more often!

Assistant Pastor - Inaburra Chaplain: Mr James Peters

James Peters & Family James has been working as an English teacher at Inaburra School since 2007. After gaining his training at Macquarie University these skills were used to teach English and to work closely alongside students with learning difficulties. In 2010 he was made Assistant Pastor and Chaplain to Inaburra School by Menai Baptist Church. James is currently doing post-graduate study at Morling College whilst still teaching English, Biblical Studies and Studies of Religion at Inaburra.

James is 25 and married to Kate. Kate is a Primary School teacher and Bible College graduate. Together, they have an energetic 14 month old boy Roman who has an advanced diploma in smiling. They love going for walks, escaping to the farm or south coast with family and reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar. James and Kate are excited about their new church family at Menai and are enjoying serving God and His church through worship and other pastoral areas.
