Structure
Inaburra Preschool is a community-based 'not for profit' preschool funded and licensed by the N.S.W. Department of Community Services, catering for 60 children a day.The Preschool is administered by a Board of Management, which includes four church representatives, two parent representatives and the Preschool Director. The Director reports to the board and major management decisions are made by the board in regular meetings. Our parent representatives are elected each year at our Annual General Meeting.
Aims
At Inaburra Preschool we aim to develop the skills and self-esteem of each child as an individual, working from the level they are at and building on those skills. The following are the broad aims on which we will focus:First Aim - Social and Emotional Development
Our planning will be based on observations of your child in areas such as separation from parents, ability to form friendships and whether they are happy, confident and eager to learn and participate. Our programs will then be designed in the following ways to encourage your children to interact:
- We will provide a caring, supportive and relaxed environment that encourages children to reach their potential and realise their own self-worth.
- We will provide an environment that allows for free play, with a variety of choices, which provide challenges for children at all developmental levels.
- We will encourage, but never force a child, extending them at their own pace.
- We will provide a range of creative resources and equipment for children to use, encouraging development of their creativity and communication skills. Using all these things children will be able to focus on the process they are involved in, expressing their feelings and thoughts in an individual way.
- We will encourage the development of communication skills, such as listening, re-telling events, asking for help and following simple examples.
Second Aim - Physical Development
We will provide a variety of activities which present realistic challenges to children, allowing them a sense of accomplishment when they master or improve their skills. We recognise that both fine motor and gross motor development are important to the growth of a child's self-confidence and independence, as well as their academic and social success.
Third Aim - Cognitive Development
All activities that are implemented at Inaburra Preschool will foster the cognitive development of your child. As they become more familiar with the surroundings, children will begin to experiment, problem solve, question, explore and create. We aim to provide an environment which will meet all children where they are at intellectually and extend their skills from that point.
We will explore basic concepts, such as numbers, colours and shapes. We will do this through free play activities as well as group times.
Fourth Aim - Spiritual Development
We do not teach the children a Christian program, however, we do share our understanding of God with the children each day. At lunchtime we thank God for our food and sometimes for our friends and family. Sometimes we will pray for children or family members who are sick.
We teach Easter and Christmas from a Biblical perspective. We do not teach against the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus, but these are not our primary focus.
We have family services with Menai Baptist Church - we would love to see you there, however, it is not an obligation. You are welcome to attend the church at any time.
