Mental Health First Aid Training

Mental Health First Aid Training for church leaders and ministry volunteers who want to be equipped with the knowledge, understanding, and practical skills to support young people experiencing mental health challenges.
Through scenarios, workshop discussions, and Q&A, participants will gain greater confidence in recognising and responding to mental health concerns in a ministry context.
The training will be run by Fiona Gardener. Fiona works for the Baptist Association of NSW & ACT and has previously been a youth mental health first aid instructor. Fiona also has qualifications in counselling, community services and coaching. The first half of the training is information based and looks at the topics of anxiety, depression (suicide and non-suicidal self-injury) and eating disorders. As well as touching on substance misuse and psychosis. The second half is looking at how to initiate and have a conversation within someone with a mental health condition (or we suspect is struggling with their mental health) and workshop scenarios on the above-mentioned topics.
Please note: This training is for educational purposes only and does not provide Mental Health First Aid accreditation or certification. Those wishing to become certified will need to complete an accredited Mental Health First Aid course separately.
